Heidi Specker′s photographs are primarily dedicated to architecture and its spatial constituents. In an almost encyclopedic or archive-like manner she has been taken pictures of modernist buildings, mainly throughout Berlin, assembling them to overviews of stereotype facades and structures, which are yet of an astonishing structural narrative. The photographs of these architectural components can be arranged freely allowing ever new combinations. In newer works such as her Bangkok series Specker also focuses on other vernacular phenomena which constitute the architecture of today. In 2005 her photo book “IM GARTEN”won the award for the best German photo book of the year.
