Jiang Zhi¡¯s work shows the interest of contemporary artists in experiences which go beyond the make-up of a superficial political or ideological reception of reality. He combines aspects of our modern, turbulent society: from the estrangement of individual existence to the hectic pace of social life; from low-tech painting and sculpture to high-tech digital image production. The 2006 Multi-channel video-installation (Let there be light) does not eulogise ¡®light¡¯ in the same way as traditional mythology, Jiang Zhi treats this essential material as something crude which harms and inhibits people. Each person who faces the harsh rays of the electric lights, regardless of their instinct to turn away, disappear, wait or stubbornly resist, loses all sense of self-protection. When confronting the reality of rapid development, there are also very few aspects that people have individual control over.

Jiang Zhi was the winner of Chinese Contemporary Art Award £¨2001£©and took the prize at the Hong Kong Short Film Festival (2003).
